The Academy of Our Lady of Good Counsel is a Catholic, four year, college preparatory high school for young women, located in White Plains, New York. The school welcomes students from a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds. The academic program is designed for achievement and includes a full honors program and advanced placement courses for qualifying students. Numerous clubs, athletic teams, activities, and special events constitute an important dimension of student experience. Long known for its tradition of academic excellence, Good Counsel was honored by the United States Department of Education for its "outstanding progress in excellence in education."
Since its founding in 1922, Good Counsel's primary focus has been to educate young women to the utmost of their potential. The school is a warm and vibrant place where 37 faculty members and over 400 students work together to create a Christian community in which each student comes to believe in her own ability to shape, not only her future, but also that of the world. There is a mutual respect between teacher and student, and the closeness of the Good Counsel community nourishes each individual while contributing to the vitality of the classroom experience. Every member of the faculty is a role model, an advisor, and a mentor in the process through which each student finds her individual strengths and talents. Through teaching and learning, which are active and collaborative, and through our vision of a just and compassionate society, our young women are prepared for college and for life.
With an integration of academic excellence and Gospel values, graduates are empowered to take their place confidently in the community and in a changing world. Today the school continues to carry forth the vision and mission of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion,a presence in the White Plains community for more than 100 years.
